Maybe once a week I find myself looking out the window and dreaming of sunny skies and holidays. I haven’t been abroad since we had the mancub three years ago and I really want to book a holiday abroad.
Sometimes I find myself looking through social media and looking at the pre-child holidays, every summer would usually contain one or two weeks of sunshine, sunbathing and fun.
There was one holiday that was my absolute favourite – and that was Tenerife, the largest of the Spanish Canary Islands.
You can fly to Tenerife in just over 4 hours from the UK, making it the perfect destination for singles, friends and families.
I visited with a friend for a week of (too much) sunshine and (even more) alcohol and it was the best week away I’ve had – there is so much to see and do, we simply didn’t have enough time to do everything we wanted to.
So what is there to do in Tenerife?
Top of the list has to be a visit to one of the many beaches, with their black and golden sands. For a small amount you can hire a sunbed or two, a parasol and enjoy the long, hot sunny days on the beach. We stayed in Torviscas, where you could have a McDonalds meal with a beer!
Places to visit
Mount Teide, a volcano and the highest point in Spain, sits in the centre of Teide National Park and is a UNESCO world heritage site. It’s quite the trek – but is well worth a visit.
Siam Park is a thai-themed water park containing water slides and a beach, perfect for a family day out.
Loro Parque started life as a parrot park(‘loro parque’ translates to ‘parrot park’) and despite being slightly controversial over its dolphin and orca shows, it remains one of the most popular tourist attractions not only in Tenerife but all of the Canary Islands.
Playa de Las Americas in the south of the island is the place to go for nightclubs, bars and a lively night out.
Los Cristianos is often overlooked but is the place to go for a more chilled out vibe, with many cocktail bars and cafes serving until the early hours overlooking the marina.
With its sunshine, beaches and so much to do, Tenerife is perfect for anyone and everyone – I’d recommend to anyone!
