It happens to most of us; we end up stuck in a rut and following the same routine week after week? At first, you don’t realise you’re even doing it until all of a sudden you look up and you realise how bored you are and your life is looking a little grey. It doesn’t have to be this way, think of this quote from Val Uchendu, he said: “If you’re to choose to paint your life today… What will it be? Remember, you’re the artist, not the canvas.” So, in an ideal world with no limits, what you do and what would you want from life?
Start by getting your ideas and juices flowing with what you would want from life and then begin to make some small changes.
Change The Day To Day
Switch up your routine and leave home earlier in the morning and take a different route to work.
Try a new coffee shop, try somewhere new for lunch, then text a friend you haven’t seen for a while and catch up, go somewhere new with them and get a unique experience. These are all small steps you can do to start breaking your slump.
Change Your Exercise Program
When you’re feeling low and unmotivated, going to the gym is one of the hardest things to force yourself to do…however it does make you feel good after. If you’re used to doing the same workout regime, 10 minutes on this machine, followed by 10 minutes on that followed by X amount of squats and sit-ups, then it’s time to change. Try doing some different form of exercise, something not even in the gym. Why not book to go climbing or trampolining? This will get you feeling good and probably get you wanting to get back into it and will give you the confidence to try new things and different classes.
Literally, Add Colour
Look around your house and in your wardrobe and think about what you could change and brighten up. What about some new cushions and throws? Or something for the walls like this Paul Treasure art? Or go wild, get out of your comfort zone and buy something to wear that’s bold and bright, something you’d love on someone else but think you can’t pull it off. Go for it; wearing bright colours is a constant reminder of happiness!
Clean And Organise
If you’ve been hoarding stuff for years, from clothes to wrapping paper to costume jewellery to books and games, then if you’re feeling fed up, actually having a good clear out, a tidy and a clean can be one of the most therapeutic things you can do. Once you do this, it will give you a fresh outlook on things and will also give you some space to and room to get some new stuff.
When all else fails to end your rut, it’s time to force yourself to be positive. Start your day saying motivational quotes as you get ready. Smile as you walk down the street, and other people will smile back. If you’re exuding positivity in your attitude, you’ll start attracting the positivity around you, and you will soon realise that the world has so much to offer and it’s time to start finding the beauty in everyday life.
